The Forum provided a vital platform for youths to showcase Africa’s emerging sustainable industrialization efforts and actively engage with global partners. The event highlighted investment opportunities in sectors like renewable energy, innovation, artificial intelligence and value-added gender equality, crucial for diversifying our economy and creating much-needed jobs for our youth. The discussions on technology transfer and capacity building were particularly insightful, offering pathways to access expertise for building resilient and sustainable infrastructure – sectors where youth can actively contribute. We also emphasized the critical need for investment in digital infrastructure particularly AI ventures to empower our young population with the skills required for the modern economy and foster innovation across various industries.
Furthermore, participation underscored the pivotal role of Sierra Leonean youth in peacebuilding and governance. We shared our national experiences and advocated for greater youth inclusion in decision-making processes, which are fundamental for long-term stability and accountability. The opportunity to connect with other nations and organizations working on strengthening the rule of law and justice systems was invaluable. We also proudly showcased youth-led initiatives promoting peace and justice within Sierra Leone, fostering potential collaborations and resource mobilization.
Celebrating International Youth day at The 28th Session of The AFS Youth Assembly themed “Breakthrough to a Better Future” in New York City, on August 11-13, 2023. It was a honorable moment to be among thousands of youths across the world to celebrate this great day and participate in youth development and networking.
Attending a United Nations Youth Assembly offers young individuals the opportunity to gain a global perspective, acquire knowledge and skills, network with like-minded individuals, advocate for important causes, influence policy, and find inspiration for personal and collective action.
